教學內容 Course Outline
課程概述 Course Description:
Class time will be spent discussing concepts and terminology as well as listening to, analyzing, and discussing music. Most homework will be the analysis of sections and/or complete movements of music. There will be a midterm analysis project and a final test. There will also be occasional quizzes and/or in-class analysis exercises (some may be unannounced).
教學目標 Course Objectives:
Students will learn the techniques and terminology needed to analyze musical phrases and forms of the Western tonal tradition (music of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries). The most important “Classical) forms will be studied, analyzed and explained.
教學內容 Course Outline:
第01週教綱 outline:Introduction: ideas of form, standard form types, musical shapes, genre, etc. Begin discussion of motives (if time)
第02週教綱 outline: Motives and Motivic Development If time, begin phrases and subphrases
第03週教綱 outline: Phrases/Subphrases and Phrase Structures (cadences and tonality), indicating harmonic movement (open/closed sections, continuous/sectional), method for analyzing small forms: binary and ternary
第04週教綱 outline: Continue from last week, also discuss differences between rounded binary and ternary forms, analyze 2- and 3-part forms
第05週教綱 outline: analyze 2- and 3-part forms
第06週教綱 outline: analyze 2- and 3-part forms
第07週教綱 outline: Finish 2-part and 3-part forms (聽寫活動) Begin Compound Ternary (Composite Ternary)
第08週教綱 outline: Compound Ternary (Composite Ternary) (assign the midterm project: compound form)
