一、教學目標：

The course is designed to increase students’ fluency in English. The objective of the course is to enable students to have adequate language skills to employ English as a means of communication.

Students are required to read the assigned essays as preparation for the class discussion and learn how to organize their ideas and respond effectively to various issues in class.

二、教材內容：    

For this academic year, the course provides certain readings, such as everyday life in Taiwan, travel experience, and sociocultural issues, as topics for discussion and presentation. Readings are provided to equip students with ability to acquire use of basic skills in English and carry on in-depth conversation about travel and everyday life in Taiwan.     

三、實施方法：        

 1. Students are required to read the assignment before class.

2.    Regular attendance is extremely important to this course as students are often required to discuss and share their ideas in class. Absences due to illness or emergent accidents must be reported and official absence application is required.

3.   Spontaneous and active class participation is highly recommended.

4.   Students should complete all the in-class and out-of-class assignments and hand in their homework On Time. Late homework will NOT be accepted unless extenuating circumstances are present. 

5.   The course plan is subject to change with prior notice given in class.  

四、評量方式：

Class performance: 30% (attendance, discussion, writing assignment, class activities, group assignments and role play)

Group Presentation: 20%

Mid-term Speech: 20%

Final Exam: 30%
